Introduction
Architecture And All | AAA, in collaboration with GaauUp, led the 2024 PMQ SEED Creative Training Class for Primary Three and Four students. The programme blended environmental education with spatial design, nurturing empathy, sustainability awareness, design thinking, and creative problemsolving through immersive, story-driven activities.
Programme Story
The curriculum centered on “The Coastal Clean-up Action of Plastic Ape and Friends,” where students role-played as forest animals responding to ocean plastic pollution. Through drama and storytelling, they explored the scientific and emotional dimensions of waste, understanding how discarded plastics harm marine ecosystems.
Creative Collaboration & Upcycling
Students brought recyclable materials from home to transform into automata representing marine creatures and habitats. Guided by AAA’s design team, they sorted plastics, used upcycling machines to remold waste, and collaboratively built kinetic sea-life models. These workshops fostered teamwork, spatial awareness, and iterative design, turning discarded plastics into meaningful creative expressions that combined art, science, and sustainability.
Student Showcases & Learning Impact
The final exhibition showcased students’ upcycled automata and sculptures, each demonstrating environmental messages through motion and design. Presenting their work to teachers and families, children practiced communication and advocacy while deepening empathy for marine life. The initiative heightened awareness of plastic recycling, improved teamwork and design thinking, and built confidence in sharing ideas for a sustainable future.
Integration of Design, Drama, and Upcycling
The course integrated scale model construction, kinetic sculpture, and interactive storytelling. Activities like letter-writing to sea creatures and recycling games connected environmental care to everyday actions. Supported by GaauUp’s upcycling machines, students experienced firsthand how waste can become a renewable resource—linking creativity, empathy, and sustainability through hands-on learning and design-driven exploration.
