Double Tokyo’s Cavernous Atmosphere
Double Tokyo is a two-story underground club and bar in Roppongi, Tokyo. The challenge was to retain and enhance the atmosphere for guests to feel like they are in a cavernous underground space while catering to the light and functional needs of a bar. The lower ceiling height may be considered a constraint, however, we enjoyed the enveloping environment and wanted to enhance these qualities.
The Reflective Cloud Space
The bar creates a fantasy space with the motif of ‘cloud’ on the second lower floor. The basement two levels have aluminium meshes that reflect laser beams infinitely whilst allowing for the function of the laser beams and AV system. The undulating cloud space acts to also bridge the five-meter headroom difference of the dance floor space.
Sweeping Curves with Light
The sweeping curves of the bar continue the language of undulation from the cloud space. Embedded light allows the visitors to feel as though they are enveloped within a cave whilst holding candlelights. The dark space with embedded warm light creates an inviting mood to entice the guests to stay and enjoy the environment with a few drinks. The yellow light hue evokes an air of romanticism amidst the sweeping curves of the space.
